Over the last half year both the Apple App Store and Google Play grew in terms of total revenue. The growth in Google Play was bigger (67%) than it was in the Apple App Store (15%), although the Apple App Store generated two times more revenue.
In July the United States spent the most money on apps, followed by Japan and South Korea, who were the main contributors to Google Play’s revenue.
In the top free apps of July publisher Gameloft’s Despicable Me came out a winner. It was popular globally on the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore.
None of the paid apps that were free for the Apple App Store’s 5th anniversary made it to July’s top five free apps. BADLAND was the highest at rank number 6. Infinity Blade II made it to rank number 9.
Globally, the top paid downloaded app of July 2013 for iOS was WhatsApp Messenger, for Google Play it was SwiftKey Keyboard, and for the Amazon Appstore, it was Minecraft – Pocket Edition.
The most revenue generating app globally in July was Candy Crush Saga – in both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Top publisher in July was Gameloft, a developer that shows consistent success in July globally, on all three app stores (Google Play, Apple App Store and Amazon Appstore) due to the success of its app, Despicable Me.
The one million download milestone for apps released in July was fastest reached by the PAC-MAN DASH! by NamcoBandai Games Inc., Monster Doctor Fun games George CL, Doctor X – Med School Kids Fun Club by TabTale.
